Define the decision before the process
Agree the role’s priorities, the evidence you need and the people responsible for the decision. A clear brief helps interviewers assess the same requirements and prevents the process from expanding without a purpose.
Explain the role, working arrangements and expected stages early. Candidates can then judge fit and make informed decisions about their time.
Give every stage a reason
Use each conversation or assessment to answer a specific question about the candidate’s fit for the role. Avoid repeating the same interview without gaining new evidence.
Tell candidates what to expect and how to prepare. Keep requests proportionate to the position and the stage of the process.
Keep communication accountable
Assign a person to coordinate updates, scheduling and feedback. Communicate changes promptly and give a realistic next step when a decision is delayed.
Review where candidates withdraw or encounter confusion. Use that feedback to improve the process while keeping assessment standards consistent.
